3M should give full play to its innovation advantages to add new impetus to the city’s economic and social development, said Mayor Yang Xiong when he met with Inge Thulin, chief executive officer of the company, on March 13.
Present at the meeting were Liu Jiaping, chairman of the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation, and Gui Enliang, general manager of the corporation.
Yang expressed his welcome to Thulin’s visit to Shanghai and made exchanges with him about the city’s economic growth and foreign investment.
“We wish 3M to develop better in the city,” Yang said.
3M has made great contributions to the city’s economic and social development since it came to the city in 1984, he said.
Shanghai is making great effort to transform and upgrade its economy, restructure its industries and explore ways of intensifying reforms and opening up to the outside world by launching the free trade zone project.
“Our aim is to create a more open and more convenient environment for international trade and investment,” the mayor said.
Shanghai is willing to reinforce cooperation with high-quality enterprises from various countries, including 3M, he said.
“We hope 3M to have a new development by using its innovation advantages,” he added.
His words were echoed by Thulin, who said 3M has made great business achievements in China in the past 30 years and thanked the consistent support from the Shanghai government.
“We are confident of our future development in China and make firm commitment to our investment in the country,” he said.
“Funds will be injected into R&D to meet the growing demands of the local market,” Thulin added.
