Caohejing launched a project on April 9 by cooperating with the Dianzhong Industry Zone to set up an industry transfer promotion center in Kunming, Yunnan province.
“The move is part of the strategy the Ministry of Commerce has launched to reinforce the cooperation with the middle and western region,” said Wang Xu, deputy director of the ministry’s Investment Promotion Affairs Bureau.
The project, Wang said, will help turn the province into a base for industrial projects from coastal areas.
Shanghai has already formed a sister relationship with Yunnan. “Setting up such a center means that the city has created a new model and a new system to support the province’s economic development,” he said.
Local insiders said the two sides can have more information exchanges through the newly-established industry platform.
“It will also become a driving force to in the fast and healthy economic and social development of the central region of Yunnan Province,” said Wang.
“It will provide a business expansion opportunity as well for coastal enterprises to extend their markets into China’s west and even Southeast Asia,” he added.
Wang and Li Pei, Party secretary of the Dianzhong Industry Zone, delivered speeches at the project-launching ceremony and unveiled the center together with Wang Xinpei, deputy director of the Shanghai Commercial Commission, and Liu Jiaping, chairman of the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation.
After the ceremony, Lyu Ming, deputy general manager of the corporation, and Yu Min, an official from the commission’s Investment Promotion Division, signed a memorandum of cooperation with Huang Yunbo, deputy director of the Dianzhong Industry Zone.
