AI Town to promote AI highland

Caohejing signed a cooperation agreement with the Shanghai Huicheng (Group) Co Ltd and the Xuhui Huajing Town government on construction of Beiyang AI Town at a press conference held by the Xuhui district government on August 28.
The conference chaired by Yan Bo, deputy director of the Xuhui district government, aimed to push forward its T plan for construction of AI new highland, which includes Beiyang AI Town and the Shanghai west coast international AI center.
Present at the signing ceremony were Fang Shizhong, director of the Xuhui district government, and Gui Enliang, chairman of the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation.
A ceremony was also held at the conference with Fang Shizhong, Yan Bo and Li Zhonghui, chairman of the Shanghai Huicheng (Group) Co Ltd, presenting golden keys to the representatives from nine enterprises which have set foot on AI Town.
They are Microsoft Asia Research Institute (Shanghai), Microsoft-Instrument AI Innovation Institute, Huawei Technology Co Ltd, Alibaba (Shanghai) Co Ltd, the Global Academic Alliance for University AI, the Shanghai United Shadow Intelligent Medical Technology Co Ltd, the Shanghai Minglue AI (Group) Co Ltd, the Shanghai Cibiti Information Technology Co Ltd and the Shenzhen Yunyi Technology Co Ltd.
Beiyang is a new AI town project co-launched by the Xuhui district government and Caohejing, which is located at the convergence point of the Shanghai Technology Innovation Industry and the park's hub, according to a source from the park.
The project, situated within the outer ring of Huajing and close to the Zhumei Road Station of Metro Line 15, reaches Changhua Road in the east, the Outer Ring Road in the south, Old Humin Road in the west and the Dianpu River in the north.
It covers an area of 54.3 hectares on which 740,000 square meters of buildings will be constructed, including 600,000 square meters of buildings for technology research, 96,000 square meters for rental housing and 44,000 square meters for supporting services.
At present, six plots for technology buildings and two for rental housings are under construction, the source said.
At the conference, Zhan Feng, general manager of the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park Development Corporation, released the AI Town project plan with an aim to build it into an AI industry cluster area, an AI comprehensive application demonstration area and an international intelligent manufacturing and urban construction integration area.
The plan also contains an AI industrial chain from basic technologies to scene application and hardware facilities and software services.
The project adopts a planning concept of small blocks and dense road networks to meet industrial demands. By doing so, it aims to shape a diversified carrier space and form an industrial ecological chain from industrial agglomeration to industrial interaction and cultivation, the source said.
